There are (at least) eight (8) logical
reasons
to further your boating education:
1.
Protecting Your Investment:
Boating safety courses can provide you with information on operation,
navigation, and rules of the road which will minimize the likelihood of
errors which may lead to damaging your boat. You will learn to identify
aids to navigation, right of way procedures, and safety precautions for
starting, operating, and maintaining your vessel. This knowledge can
help keep your boat from being damaged and avoid situations which could
threaten your investment in fun.
2.
Protecting Your Family:
Proper boating operation knowledge can keep your family safe onboard
your boat. You and your family will learn the proper way and place to
sit during boat operation, the implications of bad weather, the
importance of radios, navigational equipment, float plans and why it is
important to have properly fitting personal floatation devices for
adults, children, infants and pets. What your family will learn will
protect them from accidents and how to respond to emergencies.
3. Saving
Money on Boat Insurance:
Many insurance companies will offer a 2.5%-10% discount on boat
insurance if you have passed a certified boating safety course. You can
reap all the benefits of education, plus save money each year.
4.
Teaching Your Family New Skills:
A fun and healthy family experience. When taking a boating safety class
with your family, this experience can provide education for everyone in
the many aspects of boat operation, engine trouble shooting, boat
trailering, navigation, rules and regulations and seamanship. Skills
learned include responsibility and teamwork and promotes cooperation
among crew members.
5.
Relaxing With Confidence:
Having another boating safety class graduate on board allows the
captain to be more relaxed with the confidence that there is more than
one qualified operator watching and participating in the boating
experience. Sharing the responsibility lightens the load. And, having
more than one qualified operator provides an additional level of
safety.
6.
Getting More Enjoyment Out of Boating:
Just as you enjoy any activity more when you know the rules, you will
also enjoy your boating experience more as you understand its rules,
regulations, courtesies, and customs. Boating safety class information
includes boating terms to use with your fellow boaters, special knots
for special situations, and methods of communication on the water. It
will help you learn boating etiquette and offer you pride in
understanding the unspoken messages associated with lights, horns,
flags, and a fellow boaters wave.
7.
Reducing Your Risk of Liability:
As an educated boater the chances of you or someone in your family
making an error are greatly lessened. You want to protect yourself from
liability and take advantage of all options, which will decrease your
chances of getting into an accident or injuring another boater. A
boating safety class is just such an opportunity.

8.
Feeling good about yourself because ...
A smart boater is an educated boater. Whether it is to learn, protect
family and investments, set an example, or protect your reputation as a
responsible person, boaters taking educational courses is the right
thing to do.
