The Bridge 2013-2014

Larry joined the OBSPS with a love of sailing and a desire to continue his education in safe boating. Larry learned about the USPS Vessel Safety Program and wanted to become actively involved. He made arrangements with several mariners to examine boats right at their docks. What a great idea! In addition, Larry spent many summer days out Co-Operative Charting with squadron members. Larry enjoys sailing on his own boat on the LI Sound and enjoys boating with his squadron friends.
Ann joined the USPS over 15 years ago and became active almost immediately. As a Past Commander of the Oyster Bay, Ann has been involved in many squadron activities. In the fall of 2009, she was nominated by District 3 as the recipient for the national USPS instructor excellence award: Charles F. Chapman Award. Ann continues to teach, both power squadron members and community classes and enjoys cruising on her powerboat with her husband, Thomas.
Elena, like her husband Marco, embraced sailing with a love and fervor for the adventurer. She and Marco have traveled with squadron members along the shores of Long Island to the shores of Martha's Vineyard. Their sailing tours, and friendships they have found, are just two of the many things Elena enjoys about the Oyster Bay Sail and Power Squadron
Thomas loves cruising with his wife Joan on the south shores of Long Island especially enjoying stop-overs in the Hamptons and Greenport.
As a new member of the squadron, Thomas as enjoyed rendezvous, picnics and gathers.
Jordon took the America’s Boating Course and was introduced the power squadron with it many members who were eager to help him get his boat ready for sailing. With a little help from his new ‘power squadron friends’ Jordon’s sailboat was ready to set sail. When days become too cold for sailing, Jordon heads north to sail down mountains – skiing and snowboarding the days away.
We pleasure and pride, I happily take the role of commander of the Oyster Bay Sail and Power Squadron for the second time. I believe that education is the key to unlocking the joys of knowledge. As my wife, Elena, and I travel down the ‘educational road towards Senior Navigator, we enjoy being with so many members and being part of their USPS family.
These courses challenge us to see the world in a new ways! Yes, sometimes we think we already learned enough; but we continue on the path of USPS education. At each turn we discover many wonderful experiences with new knowledge and new friends. I encourage everyone to join us on our travels through the USPS educational university. Learn about safe boating; learn about keeping our environment safe for the next generation; learn about being part of the USPS team of educators.
Whether on the water or on the land, our USPS & squadron friends fill our lives with happiness and joy. So do not hesitate to become a member. Join us now and be part of the fun. Again, this year our new Oyster Bay Bridge, its officers and chairmen are all filled with vigor, enthusiasm and commitment. We are all dedicated education - both for our members and for the public.
