GLAUBINGER Burton Ira, a longtime resident of Ft. Lee, affectionately known by all as "Burt". Born 71 years ago in Washington Heights. He lived, and was part of Ft. Lee for half a century. Burt, who was never married had no brothers or sisters. He did have a loving aunt Hilda who died eleven years ago. While he had no real family, Burt was everybody's relative and friend. People gravitated to him because of his unique personality and strange sense of humor. He worked for many years at United Fruit in Hoboken and then went to work for the Borough of Ft. Lee, first as a truck driver then as a dispatcher, retiring in 2002 as a Code Enforcer for the Building Department. His real love and commitment was to the Ft. Lee Fire Department, Palisade Company 4 where he was a member, presently serving as the Treasurer of the Ft. Lee Exempt Firemen's Association. Commander of the Palisade Power Squadron, an honorary member of the V.F.W. #2342. His many friends called him "The Deputy Mayor". He was a regular around Main Street and certainly a fixture at Ft. Lee Hardware; he knew where everything was in the store and more times than not, you got his advice and wisdom free of charge. His service will begin Monday 12:30 at the Eden Memorial Chapels, 327 Main St., "opposite the Ft. Lee Library". He will receive a Procession of Honor passing all 4 firehouses with a private cremation following. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his memory may be made to the Palisade Company 4, Scholarship Memorial Fund, PO Box 3148, Ft Lee, NJ 07024.
