They say the turkey will be done soon so in the meantime relax and catch up on the latest gossip

The hors d'oeuvre table as watched over by Rob Anderson

The 2007 Turkey Roast was a huge success. The preparation started early on November 10th with the setting up of the tables. The obligatory conversation with the Forest Service was handled early in the morning. The ranger wanted to know why I thought that I could park my motorhome where it wasn't allowed. Having been through the same thing last year, we did some strategic planning. Permission was asked and granted for wind control (the motorhome is used to block the lake wind from the turkey friers to prevent grease fires, of course use of the stove and microwave without carrying pans up and down the hill was a minor side effect). The planning worked.

Next obstacle was to make sure that the motorhome tags were not expired. Last year the ranger politely told us that the 2 year expired tags made me eligible for a ticket. Connie, upon hearing that, came to the rescue with first the 1 year old tags, then found the current tags. This year several members verified prior to the ranger coming that current tags were in place.

The pneumatic missile range. If the missile lands in the box you win.

Now that the coast was clear, the party began. The sail race course was assembled, the boats taken out of the boat storage facility (plastic bags), masts stepped (pencils inserted into the round holes, sails trimmed (cut to captains specifications) and the race was on. Due to general confusion on the part of the officiating committee (too busy cooking turkey), excessive turmoil due to missile range action in the immediate vicinity, everyone was crowned a winner. The race official was terminated for dereliction of duty and John Yount was nominated for next year's race.

Now it is the man thing to carve the turkeys.

Two turkeys of 20 and 16 pounds was barely enough for the 46 people attending the event. Of course, as at any potluck, nobody went home hungry. The food was terrific and the company was exceptional. David and Janet Allocco met with everyone at the party by sitting at the desert table. It's amazing how many find their way to go over to them to talk.

This was one of those special events that everyone attending deserves a round of applause for putting together a fantastic event in the way that only Phoenix Sail & Power Squadron members can.
