Lynx Lake
Rendezvous
11 August 2007
Prescott, AZ |
by Cdr Bill Johnson
Ed and BJ Wojcik planned a wonderful event for our squadron
in August. They set it up, and then had to bow out due to a doctor's
requirement for Ed to be present in a surgery room the day before.
Last report was that he did show up as required and everything
came out or was put in properly.
The raft-up was one of those events you have to attend during
the year to appreciate boating on a personal level. We have camping,
hotels, and one day trips, kayaks-inflatables-model boats, BBQ-potluck,
and lots of good friends in a cool Arizona Summer day. Among
the 19 people attending the 2007 event were: Jerry & Kathy
Anderson, Chuck & Jane Peterson (with Anne), Jim & Marge
Hill, Art & Dianne Ashton, Terry & Jean Gray, David &
Janet & Tracy Allocco, Chuck & Barb Davis, Rob Anderson,
Doug Frazier and Connie & Bill Johnson. Were all had a good
time boating, enjoying the COOL weather, just a little foooooooood,
then in the late afternoon, we went into town for a tour of the
fair city of Prescott Valley.

The lake is very low, but not dry, because of the Arizona extend
drought. |

Boating is restricted to kayaks, canoes and inflatables. NO
power boats only electric trolling motors and paddles. You can
also bring your R/C electric boats and float planes.
It seems that a pre-planned itinerary was needed for this
adventure. The original dinner location was finally found after
extensive searching by numerous vehicles making a great circle
pattern around the wrong part of town. When located the establishment
was closed. Then we resorted to the final indignity of calling
Ed & BJ Wojcik from their post-op recovery to find another
fine dining location. This was found with significantly less
reconnoitering of the town, but not without having to locate
all of the scout vehicles with a big stick. Several remarks were
made with reference to the navigational skills of the ruling
Commander (squadron). These led to very interesting conversations
at the dinner table at the Mexican food restaurant that we finally
enjoyed a good dinner at with small drinks. The evening ended
with a high test contest between couples of our members on their
ability to consume a beverage. Not sure who won, but it was a
perfect day that ended with a fireworks display put on by mother
nature with a meteor shower that never seemed to end.

restaurant before driving back down to Phoenix.
Several members had to return to the big city to the south,
but the lucky ones stayed overnight in the great north woods.
Breakfast was planned for 0900 at a Coco's in a location somewhere
in Prescott/Prescott Valley with directions given with some less
than precise GPS co-ordinates or directions. Amazingly, all nine
people attending breakfast did locate the food despite the error
factor in the directions of greater than 3 miles. USPS navigational
skills still assist the members to locate the food trough.
