Boating is fun..We'll show you how

®The Lake Powell Adventure is coming up June 25-29. The water level will be up (check the squadron's web site for lake water levels and pictures of recent Lake Powell Adventures). It will be a very different lake this year.
Lake Powell is Monument Valley with water! The combination of soaring red wind-crafted cliffs, clear blue skies and deep blue waters is unmatched anywhere in the world.
Join us to explore the exciting water filled canyons. Call Art Ashton or email Art.ashton@gmail.com to learn more about this exceptional experience.
Safety Officer's Report
P/C Roger Clark, APTime is flying AS USUAL. And National Safe Boating week is just around the cornerMay 17 and Lake Pleasant. Our safe boating activity at Saguaro Lake is on Sunday May 25. So as not to interfere with the extravaganza at Lake Pleasant.
The 25th is on the busy Memorial Say weekend, so at Saguaro we will have packets of squadron ditty bags to put in peoples vehiclesnot in their boats.
We will put packets in their vehicles when they are coming out of the lake when they are still on the ramps, and we will ask permission to inspect their boats. We only have one VSE inspector available that day. Mr. Scow of the forest service has again given us permission to do this.
The marina opens at 0900 we may park at the restaurant and use one vehicle to take the card table to the launch ramp area and place it under a shade tree. We will work from 0930 or after breakfast until 1300. We must park at the restaurant because we have to go up the hill, and we could be turned away by law enforcement.
Restaurant customers we can use their private lot. Remember we cannot get into the parking area until 0830, and we must wait till 0930. They have a bench, and ice cold water fountain and restrooms outside the restaurant.
Happy safe boating.

Administrative Officer
Lt/C David Allocco, JNThe annual Katherine Landing event could not have been better. The weather was perfect, the lake was awesome, and the evening gatherings were relaxing. Attendees came from a number of squadrons in California and Arizona. There were folks from three districts! The word is out, for a great time in April, go to the Colorado River.
The people who attended the general membership meeting on12 April were treated to an excellent pot luck dinner The meeting was relatively short but when the lights were turned off (err the sun went down) we had a drive-in movie without the cars. The movie was Gone Fishin. Some scenes made people laugh so hard we thought the paramedics would be needed!
April closed out with a Boat Operator Certification (BOC) Offshore Cruise. For many years the United States Power Squadrons have promoted boating safety and education with a variety of nautical subjects presented in a classroom setting. Now, for the first time, we are implementing an on-the-water skill demonstration program. One of the more advanced activities involves boating offshore continuously for four days and nights with skippers and crew standing watch.
The first weekend in May saw the annual Stink Potters Cruise out of Chula Vista. This year the cruise involved dodging airplane races in San Diego Bay.
Youve heard of the book Two Years Before the Mast? Well, come to the May General Membership meeting and see pictures and video showing how our members spent a Week Before the Mast on the Offshore Cruise and the Stink Potters Cruise.Speaking about the General Membership Meeting, it will be held on May 15, 2008 at the Deer Valley Airport, located at Seventh Avenue and Deer Valley Rd. Well get together at 1730. See you there.
Upcoming activities include National Safe Boating Week beginning 17 May. This event has been growing every year. This year is expected to be bigger than ever before. This is one of the major community service activities of the Squadron. Please let Connie Johnson know how youd like to help out.
We have a raft-up scheduled for Deer Cove on Lake Pleasant on the 24th of May. Put on your PFD and jump in the water. Youll hear more about this at the Membership Meeting.
In June you can escape the heat by attending the District 28 Summer Council Meeting in Chula Vista, California on 7 June. June 14 will find us back at Deer Cove on Lake Pleasant. We just cant get enough of this!
As June comes to a close the Squadron will caravan to Lake Powell. Check out the website or next months Bosns Pipe for details.
