USPS® is the first organization to join the USCGAux in the first expansion of the NEW VSCP with the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) in January 2000. With the signing of this agreement USPS Leadership is committed to making the VSC Program work.
A joint program like this requires a TEAM Spirit. USPS and the USCGAux have always been partners in the safe boating education arena. USPS has been a national leader in Safe Boating Education. "Safe Boating Through Education" has been the cornerstone of our organization for over 85 years. We all know Recreational Boating Safety saves lives. VSCP provides significant benefits to recreational boaters. Missing, damaged, and/or malfunctioning safety equipment for recreational vessels can be identified at the dock or on land and installed, replaced, or fixed to ensure ready availability in a potential emergency.
When boats are being inspected to insure basic safety items are accounted for many people want their boat to pass. A fair amount of anxiety arises when the big day comes. All VSE's strive to insure that the experience is positive and all party's depart with positive attitudes.
This is the time of year we vessel safety inspectors VESSEL INSPECTORS really get busy. We start checking boats as the spring season approaches. We inspect all the boats we can from those who volunteer. We do this for the safety of boats in the Squadron and as well as for everyone else interested in a Vessel Inspection..If anyone is interested in becoming a vessel inspector, please give P/C Ron Werner a call. We had our first inspection by Mary Hora who was eagerly awaiting the new year. Please give one of our VSE's a call (see the list below) if you would like a vessel check.

Tempe Town Lake
P/C Ron Werner, APWe met with the Harbor Master of Tempe Town Lake. He is in charge of all the water activities on this lake nestled in the heart of metropolitan Phoenix.. This turned out to be something that we both had common interest and should form the basis of a good partnership.

They were happy to have us. We have a long way to go as the lake is a lake for electric boats, sailboats, kayaks and all that floats with out the engine. So most people do not consider these to fall under the Federal and state regulations.

* * * Vessel Safety Examiners Annual Report
By Ron WernerOur year is coming to a end very fast. We have had a excellent year. The Phoenix Squadron has done well, as well as the District. I know that there are many things happening before the end of year. Just some food for thought for next year.
We have opportunities coming up in areas that we did not work with in the past. For instance the snow fall in the Northern parts of Arizona is going to give us lakes to use again such as Lake Mary by Flagstaff. This is really good news. A Vessel Examiner could go up to Lake Mary, spend a few days there camping, do a few examinations along with handing out boat classes for safe boating. Then relax and do some fishing or just demonstrate how to do nothing . We would be honored to get a few new examiners.
If anyone seems interested, we can plan a week end in the summer when it is hot in the valley, at Lake Mary.
Now is the time to start thinking about those places you might want to see and do some boat examinations We the Werners do patrols at Lake Powell over the 4th of July. We rent a slip for the boat and sleep in the boat. We would welcome any examiners to come up and camp, in the boat or in the camp ground to do some boat inspections.
Both Lake Mary and Lake Powell have a lot of boats. Lake Mary has small boats, Lake Powell has large boats but they all need to be examined. They all need boat information.
