Change of Watch
16 January 2010

General Map

Local Street Map

A very special Change of Watch will be returning to the Union Hills Country Club in Sun City. The club is located at 9860 W. Lindgren Avenue.

The event has twofold meaning. The squadron will formally welcome its new bridge officers, committee chairs, and thank the outgoing officers for work well done.

What makes this change of watch so special, however, is it will also mark the 50th anniversary of the squadron’s existence. The squadron was founded in 1960, and has prospered over the half-century of its existence. A special program is planned.

The Change of Watch is the only formal occasion marked by the squadron. Those with A uniforms will likely wear them, however, appropriate attire is entirely fitting and welcome.

Dinner will feature a dinner salad, pot roast of beef jardinière, new potatoes with glazed carrots and a festive dessert of peppermint stick ice cream and pie.

There’ll be a no-host cocktail period with members can greet old friends and exchange the latest news. Cocktails are scheduled for 1730, dinner at 1830 and the program to follow.

Contact Bill Johnson if transportation is needed.

Phoenix to host District 28 Spring Conference
By P/D/C Bill Johnson, SN

The District 28 Spring Conference hosted by our Phoenix Sail & Power Squadron is fast approaching. The Dates are March 5th & 6th, 2010. The D28 Spring Conference is one of two conferences and two councils held each year.

The Councils (Summer and Winter) normally are held in San Diego and the Conferences (Spring and Fall) are held on a rotating basis at host squadrons in the District.

The Spring Conference is where the new officers of the District are elected during the meeting and sworn into office at a formal dinner on Saturday evening. This year is especially a Phoenix Sail & Power Squadron event due to the Phoenix squadron celebrating its 50th year as well as the possibility of the incoming District Commander being from the Phoenix Squadron.

If you plan on staying at the hotel, please make your reservation before the January 25th cut-off date. The price of the rooms will jump significantly from our group discount. Staying at the hotel would save on travel to and from the hotel.

Help is needed in all phases of the event. From setting up the host room, assisting in directing attendees for registration and locating event rooms for participants, transportation to the hotel & spouse event, setting up the dinner arrangements, locating and obtaining raffle prizes, to just attending the conference.

Participating in this event and helping to make it one of the best in our squadron’s 50th year will be an achievement for our squadron and new squadron commander.

Please contact Bill Johnson to find out what you can do to help. All jobs (big and small) are very important to a successful conference.
Volunteer for what you want or just let us know you would like to help to the extent possible.

See District 28 website District Activities page for hotel accomidations plus activities and meal reservations
