We have a great event coming up 17 May and need a lot of help. It is our 5th Annual Arizona Safe Boating Celebration at Lake Pleasant Regional Park (10 lane ramp)
The first opportunity needing volunteers would be 14 May at 0800 (8am) at the System-Aire office 7136 W. Frier Dr. in Glendale to help us stuff the information bags. The more people we have stuffing, the sooner we can be finished. If you can help let me know and then just show up. (602-695-2147)
The main attraction will be at the 10 lane ramp with set up at 0700 (7am) and run until noon with clean up after that. We will definitely be done by 1300 (1pm).
Opportunities for volunteers include handing out the information bags both at the main gate and the ramp make ready area, assisting the vessel examiners with their paperwork, handing out popsicles to children and not so children (big kids), manning our booth and promoting our education classes.
Last year there were over 140 vessel inspections done. With more volunteers we can easily increase those numbers of safe boaters on the water. There will be wake boarding demonstrations, the Coast Guard Helicopter from San Diego will do some water rescue demonstrations, as well as some mini classes going on.
Just being there among the Arizona Boaters and talking boating with others is worth the time spent. You won't be sorry you volunteered. Please consider a few hours to help in a worthwhile cause.* * * 6th Annual Power Boat Coastal Cruise

* * * District 28 Summer Council Meeting Coming Up
D/Lt/C Connie Johnson, JNAs you all know, our new provisional squadron South Bay will be hosting the Summer Council meeting in Chula Vista on 7 June. May I suggest a few places for making reservations.
If you are interested in an RV Park I highly recommend the Chula Vista RV Resort at 460 Sandpiper Way in Chula Vista CA. Phone 619-422-0111. This park fills very rapidly, so do it now. Bill and I made reservations for ourselves and they had a few spots left at that time, but you need to hurry! This park is within walking distance of the Chula Vista Yacht Club where the meeting will be held. The park has an exercise room (free), a BBQ area, swimming pool and it is really clean and well policed. Weekends are popular for transients and reservations are essential. Summer weekend rates start at 55.50 + tax. Well worth it. Again - I can't stress enough - they go fast - reserve it now!
A few motels have been recommended. First is the Vagabond Inn Chula Vista. 230 Broadway (just off I-5). This was our Commander's first choice of motels. Phone 800-522-1555. AMENITIES Free Continental Breakfast, Free Wireless Internet available in all rooms and rates I found on the internet started at $86.00 for a king bed room.
The El Primero at 416 3rd Ave is more upscale with rates between $100.00 and $175.00 (also just off I-5) Phone 619-425-4486. AMENITIES complimentary gourmet breakfast, Wi-Fi internet access.
A smaller sort of mini motel which is clean with minimum amenities and small rooms would be the Riviera at 372 Broadway. Phone 619-422-1987 Rates start at $55.00 per night.
I hope this gives you a good selection to choose from. Don't wait! Make those reservations now! Let's show our new upcoming squadron the best of our attendance. Heck - let's set a new record for attendance!
I will be there will you?
