The United States Power Squadrons work with the USCG and  USCG Auxiliary to perform Vessel Safety Checks. You can contact either them or us to perform the Vessel Safety Check examination. However, the USCG has been tasked with additional duties in light of recent events. By contacting a USPS Certified Examiner to perform your VSC, this will free up the USCG and USCG Auxiliary to concentrate on their primary  duties.

Just like your boat registration that must be renewed every year, Vessel Safety Checks should to be performed every year.

Some reasons that your boat needs to have a VSC Check every year are:

  •  Federal, State, and local regulations can change
  •  boat registration numbers improperly displayed or missing
  •  life jackets become defective
  •  horn not functioning
  •  navigation light's not functioning
  •  fire extinguisher's need to be serviced
  •  flares are out of date
  •  and much more

Your boat is your pride and joy, no matter what size it is.
Let us help you to keep it safe.

When you click on the Pre Check link below, make sure you download a copy of the actual Safety Check Form our Examiners use. You can use this form to make sure your boat meets the requirements. This will help you to get ready for your VSC. You still need to have an Examiner check your boat, as that is the only way to get the VSC Decal. You will also receive a copy of the completed VSC Form with the Examiners name and number for your onboard records.

What are you waiting for? It's FREE!
Our Examiners need something to do.

I will give you one guess where the
local marine law enforcement agencies get
their Vessel Safety Checks each year.

Fire Extinguishers are one of many items that are checked during the VSC.

The chart below describes the recommended way to use a
 Fire Extinguisher.

HOW TO USE A PORTABLE
FIRE EXTINGUISHER

Remember the acronym, "P.A.S.S."--

P

......Pull the Pin.

A

......Aim the extinguisher nozzle at
      the base of the flames.

S

......Squeeze the trigger while
      holding the extinguisher
      upright.

S

......Sweep the extinguisher from
side to side, covering the area
of the fire with the extinguishing
      agent
.

Now have you had your Free VSC?
 If not, why not?

Grampa's Bakery at the Dania Beach Marine Flea Market.

Many
PBPS members manned the food tent for Grampa's Bakery.

In addition to eating all......   ah, selling the food, our members
discussed many items that are taught in our Boating Classes
and items that are checked during the VSC.

The Dania Beach Marine Flea Market is one of the largest
in Florida. It runs for four days, Thursday through Sunday.
If you can't find it here, you don't need it!
