Sailing, Power boating, cruising and fishing are the interests of our members both on our inland waters and our New Hampshire coastal waters. Other squadrons comprising District 19 are; Amoskeag, Kennebec River, Lakes Region, Mid Coast, Wawenok, Winooski Valley and Portland Head Light. They can be visited on our Links Page. Pictures of our events are featured in our Gallery. Our honored Past Commanders are listed HERE.

There are objectives in the United States Power Squadrons and the Portsmouth Sail & Power Squadron:

   The first is the education of the public and its members, second is participation in civic programs and third to promote an atmosphere of friendship and camaraderie.

   Additional objects of this squadron are:

      To selectively associate congenial persons of good character having a common love and appreciation of yachting as a nationwide fraternity of boatmen;

      To encourage and promote yachting, power and sail, and to provide through local squadrons and otherwise a practical means to foster fraternal and social relationships among persons interested in yachting;

      To encourage and promote a high amateur standard of skill in the handling and navigation of yachts, power and sail; to encourage and promote the study of the science and art of navigation, seamanship and small boat handling; to develop and promote instructional programs for the benefit of members; and to stimulate members to increase their knowledge of and skill in yachting through instruction, self-education, and participation in marine sports activities and competitions;

      To encourage its members to abide by recognized yachting traditions, customs and etiquette; and

      To render, and encourage its members to render, such altruistic, patriotic or other civic service as it may from
            time to time determine or elect.

      The widely recognized education program consists of courses broken down into two groups of Advanced Grades and Electives. Advanced grades are Seamanship, Piloting, Advanced Piloting, Jr. Navigation and Navigator.

The elective courses are Marine Engine Maintenance, Marine Electronics, Sail, Weather, Cruise Planning and Instructor Development. These courses are all taught by experienced member instructors. Our civic contributions to the public start with a Basic Boating Course which is offered at least once a year, a cooperative agreement with the National Oceanic Atmospheric Association (NOAA) Nautical Chart Program informing them of additions and corrections and the Vessel Safety Check Program done in conjunction with the US Coast Guard Auxiliary and the National Alliance of safe boating law administrators.

      There are a number of social activities, which include cruises, rendezvous', sail races, dinners, picnics, field trips and meetings with program speakers.

Member of District 19

District 19 is one of the 33 districts of the United States Power Squadrons®, the world's largest private, non-profit boating organization. D19 currently represents ten squadrons with around 1000 members.

Activities relate to three USPS objectives: community service, continuing education, and enjoying the friendship and camaraderie of fellow members. As a member you will join with knowledgeable boaters in your area, familiar with local waters, the best anchorages, marinas, and boat repair shops.

USPS® Squadron Educational Programs

   The USPS® Educational Program is diverse and challenging. It offers to the members the promise of greater enjoyment and safety in their own boating activities. In addition, the Educational Program offers the satisfaction of personal accomplishment, and the opportunity to share with others the knowledge and skills the individual member has acquired.
