The Squadron Boating Course is given over a 4 week period, meeting on weeknights during successive weeks at 7:00 or 7:15 pm for one to two hours.  This course teaches basic seamanship principles, state and Federal boating requirements, and safety.  On successful completion of the course you will be awarded a certificate which allows you to legally operate any boat, including personal water craft, in Washington, DC and in Maryland.  This certificate is required if you were born after July 1, 1972.  Successful course completion further qualifies you for membership in any US Sail and Power Squadron such as Potomac River Power Squadron.  A nominal fee covers text and materials.  Instruction is free.  Pre-registration is not necessary.
