1986 - COMMANDER'S MESSAGE

JAMES F. DUGAN III, AP

The old saying "You get out of it what you put into it" aptly applies to the Power Squadron activities.

Everyone with an interest in boating, whether motor or sail, will find something in the Power Squadron. Courses include Public Boating, Operations Training, and grades of S, P, AP, IN, and N. Elective courses include S, W, EM, ME, and IQ (now "Speaking and Teaching"). Programs include Boating Activities, Cooperative Charting, Geodetic Marker Recovery, Cruising Guide, and Port Captain.

Volunteer! Teach a class to repay for the one someone taught to you. Proctor the nights you are not teaching. Teaching sharpens your own knowledge of the subject. Help others to get as much pleasure out of safe boating as you get.

While you are helping others, remember to help yourself. What would be your next higher Advanced Grade? "Go for it!"

Attend meetings; participate in the social aspects of the Squadron. Have a good time with friends who share your interest in boating. Bring a friend to a meeting; propose a friend for membership.

Lastly, put all that you have learned to use. Go down to the sea again. "Nothing is half as much fun as messing around in your boat!"
