Sandusky Public Boating Classes

The Sandusky Power Squadron usually teaches the USPS Boating Course, and/or Boatsmart ® to the general public twice annually at two Sandusky area locations. Sandusky Power Squadron stresses safe boating operations, regulations, learning plotting, compass courses, bearings, dead reckoning, distance-speed-time calculations and marlinespike.

Trained members of the Sandusky Power Squadron at no cost provide the instruction to students.  There is a nominal fee for the student manual.  Some type of protractor and dividers may be required.

Licensing:  These courses are approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators and meet all current and known future requirements for non-commercial state licenses.  Beginning January 1st, 2000, Ohio's Mandatory Boater Education Law requires all persons born on or after January 1st, 1982 to pass a boater education course prior to operating a PWC or Power boat of 10hp or more.

Saving Money:  Many insurance companies offer a reduced premium to boat owners who have passed this course.  Check with your agent.

Passing the boating course is a requirement for membership in USPS.
