Does your vessel meet the requirements set down by law? Do you have the necessary safety equipment on board to ensure that you and your family will be safe at sea? Is your safety equipment operational and up to date? A free Vessel Safety Check will let you know!
The Vessel Examiner is a trained specialist and is a member of the United States Power Squadrons or the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. They are not law enforcement personnel. The results of your Vessel Safety Check (VSC) are confidential. A Vessel Examiner (VE), based on his or her inspection of your boat may make recommendations or discuss specific issues to help you improve your boat’s safety, and will provide you with a copy of the evaluation so that you may follow up on any of the suggestions made. If your boat meets all requirements and passes the VSC, you will be given a distinctive VSC decal to display. While passing a VSC does not exempt you from law enforcement boarding, the VSC decal can make the encounter a much more positive experience for both you and the law enforcement officer.
A Vessel Safety Check (VSC) is a free examination of your boat. VSCs are usually conducted at Pillar Point Harbor, Redwood City Marina and many other Small Craft Harbor or other sites in the Peninsula and South Bay Area. Your boat will be well examined by one of our specially trained Power Squadron Examiners, and you will be provided with a report of your vessel's compliance with U.S. Coast Guard regulations regarding boating safety features and equipment.
