Beach Clean Up - May 6, 2017

What is it they say about the postman? "Neither rain nor sleet?" Well, loyal and available members of San Luis Rey showed up at Oceanside Pier for a cold, windy and damp Beach Clean Up. Along with about 40 other local participants we picked up trash, cigarette butts by the thousands, and all sorts of yucky debris. One man even collected a dead seagull! Yuck! We had a great time in spite of the weather and loved being outside providing a service to our community and the beach that we love so much.

Suzy Cooper brought along 4 of her students who had amazing energy and commitment. They won the prize for finding the most cigarette butts. One young lady who joined us in the collection of "stuff" found a fantastic "message in a bottle". On the beach she found a sealed bottled containing a note from a boy from Nevada on vacation in Hawaii. He released the bottle in Hawaii in June 2014. She is contacting him to let him know where the bottle was found. This was very exciting for us all. Joining us at the Beach Clean Up were Jan Follestad, Susie and Jim Weaver, Suzy Cooper and students, Nancy and Chris Peavey, Cida and Van Diehl and June and Dave Duet. Thank you to all who braved the elements!
