GPS SEMINAR

This hands-on, four hours, Seminar is designed for recreational boaters or fishermen who want to learn how the Global Positioning System can help them finding their position and navigate their boats  The course covers the following topics:

1.      How GPS works.

2.      A basic overview of charts.

3.      Your GPS Receiver – Start-Up, Simulator Mode, Buttons, Screens, and Menus

4.      Using GPS to Navigate – Waypoints, Routes, Creating a Route exercise

5.      Using your GPS to Navigate with Charts and Local Observations

Students should bring their GPSs to the class, including the User Manual. A limited number of GPSs will be available for group use.

The Seminar is hosted by the San Luis Rey Sail and Power Squadron and will be held at the Oceanside Yacht Club, 1950 Harbor Drive North, Oceanside, CA 92054, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm, June 9th, 2007
