To promote recreational boating safety through education and civic activities while providing fellowship to our members" In addition we offer our members and guests the opportunity for many exciting and fun activities both on and off the water, why not join us and expand your boating education and share the enjoyment and camaraderie with your fellow boaters.

The Smithtown Bay Power Squadron is located on the North Shore of Long Island, New York in the Township of Smithtown between the Towns of Huntington, Islip and Brookhaven. We welcome all qualified boaters and non-boaters to join our membership and share our fellowship and future.

 

 

 

PUBLIC EDUCATION

The Free Public America's Boating Course 3rd Edition is conducted in both the Spring and Fall, at the Hauppauge High School, Lincoln Blvd., Hauppauge, NY  on Tuesday evenings for a period of 5 weeks with the final exam at the last session. (Included in the course is Session on Personal Watercraft Operation).

MEMBER EDUCATION

USPS® Advanced and Elective Courses are conducted on Thursday evenings, in both the Spring and Fall, based on membership interest and are also available for nearby squadron members. These classes are held at the St. Thomas of Canterbury Parish House in Smithtown.

Advanced Courses consist of the following: Seamanship, Piloting, Advanced Piloting, Junior Navigation and Navigation.

Elective Courses consist of the following: Cruise Planning, Engine Maintenance, Marine Electronics, Sail, Weather and Instructor Development.

The Fall 2009 Public America's Boating Course concluded Oct. 13th with 12 students graduating. Congratulations to all, 11 students have signed up for the optional 2 week course beginning Oct. 20.

New York State now requires fishing a license for all persons over 14 years of age effective Oct 1, 2009, (pending court action).

District 3 Fall Education Conference was held Saturday Nov. 14th., Smithtown Sheraton, Smithtown, NY. Find out details at the Dec. Meeting.

Congratulations to P/C's Jim Brennan & Dr. Robert Rupnick on achieving their 25 years of service awards.

The  Seamanship Class began May 14, 2009 and is now completed. Congratulations to Doug Schroeder, P on completing the course.

The 2009-2010 SBPS Bridge was installed at the April 15th Change of Watch. 41 Members & Guests attending. Go to Photo Albums.

The Spring Public Boating Course began March 3, 2009 with 13 students passing the final exam. Congratulations to all.
