Southport Sail & Power Squadron

Greetings from the Commander

Julia K. Reuter, Commander,
Welcome to the web site for Southport Sail and Power Squadron. USPS is a non-profit, educational organization dedicated to making boating safer and more enjoyable. It is America's largest non-profit boating organization and has some 40,000 members organized into 440 squadrons. Although the U.S. Power Squadrons has a long tradition of service to boaters and boating, having been organized in 1914, our Squadron was organized in early 2001, with the USPS Charter granted in 2002.
The three primary objectives of USPS are:
Community service
Continuing education
Enjoying the friendship and camaraderie of our fellow members
Our Squadron offers a wide range of classes, ranging from short programs which introduce the fundamentals of GPS to advanced classes in navigation. Although members are not required to participate in classes, they are encouraged to do so to increase their boating knowledge. There are 18 course titles offered by over 6,000 instructors nationally.
Americas Boating Course is offered on a regular basis through-out the year. Successful completion of the course is required of all NC boaters under 26 and is highly recommended for all boaters.
We also have a year of social events including cruises, parties, and “give back to our communities” events.
We meet on the second Wednesday of each month, usually with an informal meal and short program at Duffers Pub & Grill. Social hour starts at 6:00, a short business meeting at 6:30, then dinner and speaker starting at 7:00. Visitors are welcome to join us at a meeting to explore membership in the Squadron.
I am privileged to serve as the present Commander of Southport Sail and Power Squadron.
