Greetings from the Commander,
Bob Griffith AP
Welcome to the web site for Southport Sail and Power Squadron.
USPS is a non profit, educational organization dedicated to making boating safer and more enjoyable. It is America's largest non-profit boating organization and has some 60,000 members organized into 450 squadrons.
Although the U.S. Power Squadrons has a long tradition of service to boaters and boating, having been organized in 1914, our Squadron was organized in early 2001, with the USPS Charter granted in 2002.
The three primary objectives of USPS are community service, continuing education, and enjoying the friendship and camaraderie of our fellow members. To this end, our Squadron offers a wide range of classes, ranging from short programs which introduce the fundamentals of GPS or engine maintenance to advanced classes in navigation. Although members are not required to participate in classes, they encouraged to do so to increase their boating knowledge.
We meet on the second Wednesday of each month, usually with an informal meal and short program. Visitors are welcome to join us at a meeting to explore membership in the Squadron.
I am privileged to serve as the present Commander of Southport Sail and Power Squadron. If you need more information about our Squadron, please contact me at RGrif2@aol.com.
