Commanders Message:

We are starting on a new boating season. I know sometimes the weather does not seem to be what we want for boating, but the sun is on its way with warmer temperatures and sunny days.

I first have to mention the passing of Jack Whitehill, AP our good friend and hard worker for not only SSPS, but other clubs around town. He was a past Commander, having served six times in that position. More about Jack at our May meeting.

We have several things coming up in the next few months and I would encourage everyone to get involved. First, the "On the Water" training boat will be in our area – what a great tool for getting new people interested in USPS and SSPS.

The board is still working on planning some summer cruises and everyone will know more as soon as we can get them put together. If anyone has some ideas, please share those ideas with someone on the board. I would like to thank Bruce Vonada, AP our outgoing Commander. He did a great job and had a lot of obstacles to overcome. From not having the club house to hold our meetings, to going through years of old material and deciding what to keep and what to throw away. Also, under his watch we had a very successful District 16 meeting here in Spokane. Jim and Jean Roeber were the spear heads on this and ended it with the installation of John Sherrick, JN as the new Dist. 16 Cdr. When you see Bruce give a him a big thumbs up and be sure to thank him for a hard year well done. Before I close I want to thank all of the members who will be with me on the board next year. Jim Lea, Jim Kelly, Bill Asbell, Matt Cowles, Al Dunlap, Don Kelly and Kevin Bourne.

Cdr Howard
