SQUADRON HISTORY
The Tar River Power Squadron was
formed in 1983 as an offshoot of the Kinston Power Squadron. As an active
member of District 27 and the United States Power Squadronsâ, it grew to more than 100 local members from
the Greenville and Washington, NC areas. In May 2000, TRSPS phenomenal growth
led many Washington NC TRSPS members to found the Pamlico Sail and Power
Squadron. While the ranks were almost halved in number, in 2001we attracted
many new members, and as of February 2002, TRSPS has 66+ active and family
members. Our squadron continues to attract active new members through its
primary objective as a non-profit safe boating educational organization. TRSPS
members are justifiably proud of its heritage and dedication to safe boating,
self-education, civic service and social activities. In 1999, national USPS
agreed to incorporate the word "sail" in the squadron name, thus we
became "The Tar River Sail and Power Squadron".
