Advanced Courses Starting in 2008 {UPDATED 05/31/08}

These advanced boating courses are available to all Power Squadron Members. As always, instruction is free, although there is a charge for books and materials. Read a complete description of each advanced boating course.

If your are a current Power Squadron member, simply call the listed contact right away to let them know of your intentions to attend or your interest in a particular course. They can make arrangements to get the materials and supplies necessary. If you want to take a class, but don't find it offered here, or it's on a night you can't attend, please call the SEO, Alan Gosselin, at (805)647-8763, and see if he can arrange it with another squadron! If you are not a member, but would like to take one of the classes we offer, you simply need to complete our Public Boating Course and then apply to

join the Squadron.

This fall, the Squadron will offer the USPS Seamanship Course. Seamanship is the next class after Public Boating Course, and covers basic deck seamanship, marlinspike (knots and ropes), anchoring and rafting, basic boat care and maintenance, and nautical and USPS customs and etiquette. The particulars:

Where: Ventura Port District’s offices at 1603 Anchors Way Drive Ventura, CA 93001 (just past Anchor’s Way Boart Yard and Scotch and Sirloin Restaurant).

When: The first class will be held on October 4 at 1900 (7:00 pm); the course will take approximately 10-12 weeks to complete

Cost: $40.00, to cover the cost of publications and course materials.
