A Vessel Safety Check (previously known as Courtesy Marine Examination) is an examination of your boat (power boats, sailboats, personal watercraft) to verify the presence and condition of certain safety equipment required by State and Federal regulations (VIEW CHECK SHEET USED BY VESSEL EXAMINERS FOR MOST VESSELS FOR PADDLE CRAFT). The Vessel Examiner is a trained specialist and a member of the US Power Squadrons. We will also make certain recommendations and discuss certain safety issues that will make you a safer boater.
This is not boarding or a law enforcement issue. No citations will be given as a result of this encounter. We will supply you with a copy of our evaluation so that you may follow some of the suggestions given. This does not exempt you from law enforcement boarding, but you can be prepared to make that a positive encounter. Vessels that pass will be able to display the distinctive VSC decal.
There is no cost for the Vessel Safety Check and most boats can be examined in 30 minutes.
