Boat Smart
Note: Boat Smart is no longer available from USPS Headquarters. This page will only remain available until the last Boat Smart classes are completed. Boat Smart has been replaced by the short (8-hour) version of America's Boating Course - 3rd Edition.
The Boat Smart student manual has been revised for 2006 and has been shipped for all new Boat Smart orders starting in April 2006. This updated manual is the Boat Smart 2004 edition with the previous 9 page addendum embedded. Boat Smart now includes a new 50-question exam prepared by NASBLA and is referred to as the Form-A examination. Boating Course Chairpersons should also include their local state specific exam questions. New shipments from USPS Headquarters include an information sheet for instructors
If your squadron has 2004 inventory, please include the Addendum with the student manual to maintain the NASBLA certification of the older material. You can download a master copy from the Download section. (06 Apr 06)
The current edition of Boat Smart is NASBLA approved through 31 December 2009.

Boat Smart Addendum. A multi-page addendum is available for use with Boat Smart student manuals, 2004 Edition. Obtain the PDF file from the Boat Smart Download section. (03 Jan 06)

Boat Smart Course Homework. In the 2004 edition of Boat Smart, on page 39, Section 1, homework question #18, the correct answer is "d" (bowline). The Instructor Manual incorrectly lists "b" (figure eight knot) as the answer. (07 Oct 04)

Boat Smart 2004 Addendum. A multi-page addendum is available for use with existing squadron Boat Smart 2004 inventory. This Addendum (64KB, PDF) should be copied as necessary and provided to all students using the 2004 Edition of the student manual for Boat Smart. New orders being shipped by USPS Headquarters will include the Addendum. Answers to certain examination questions will be found in this Addendum. (03 Jan 06)

One Page Homework Answer Sheet. A one page homework answer sheet form is available for use in Boat Smart courses. This form is in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format and is 16 KB.
