Public Relations Materials

The following materials may be used by squadrons to promote USPS courses and seminars to the public.

PowerPoint Slides to Introduce USPS to the Public

• A short 10 slide PowerPoint presentation is available for use in your public boating safety courses. Save this PowerPoint file (PPT, 317 KB) to your computer and run it locally whenever needed.
• A longer PowerPoint presentation titled How Boaters Get Into Trouble is provided to introduce the public to USPS and what we teach to prevent ruining a day on the water.  The PowerPoint presentation (PPT, 6890 KB; 31 slides) includes some startling pictures, which have proved to be a real conversation starter. Read the comments on the Notes Page for slide #3 of the PowerPoint presentation for an explanation of the accident. (12 Sep 04)

How to Promote Boat Smart and The Squadron Boating Course

• Need some tips on promoting your Boating or Boat Smart courses?  Want to know when or where to conduct the courses?  Do you know how to work with your Public Relations Officer (PRO) to get the word out on your course?  These and other tips are in a document (PDF, 27KB) prepared by the Basic Public Education Committee. • Go the USPS Public Relations Committee home page to get information on PR materials that are available (see the catalog) or to order PR materials (see PRCom forms) for your upcoming Boating or Boat Smart courses.  You can't have a successful Boating or Boat Smart course without good PR to bring in students.  Plan ahead!

Cooperative Advertising Reimbursement

• The USPS Public Relations Committee web site also has the form (NPR102) you need to request reimbursement for advertising your boating classes.  Go directly to their forms page.
