Curriculum Development and Coordination Committee

This site is provided as a means of communications with the USPS National Curriculum Development and Coordination Committee (CDCCom). We welcome your questions and comments on course content and flow, grade equivalency, and new subjects.

Committee Responsibilities

The CDCCom is responsible for course content control and flow, grade equivalency, and new subjects. Specifically, it:

  • Monitors and controls course content, ensures continuity and flow between courses, seeks to eliminate redundancy, monitors grade and course equivalency, and works with course committees and supports their activities.
  • Maintains USPS Glossary to standardize terminology.
  • Recommends externally recognizable levels of proficiency and maps USPS courses into these levels, recommends additional supplemental programs to fill voids, and proposes a formal certification program for internal approval.
  • Recommends new courses and supplemental instructional topics to be developed, and proposes seminars and guide topics to satisfy educational needs.
  • Develops and provides project management teams to support committee development activities.
  • Sets standards for storyboarding of new materials and serves as review chair to approve materials for final development.
  • Assists committees in establishing learning objectives for each course and supplemental program, and maintains overall list of USPS educational objectives.
  • Reviews homework and examination questions to ensure that they reinforce the text learning objectives.
  • Establishes educational programs targeted at spouses, women, and youths.
  • Plans and coordinates Ed Dept activities at the annual Expo.
  • Prepares, edits and publishes Currents, the Educational Department newsletter.
  • Manages special projects assigned by the NEO or ANEO.

USPS Nautical Glossary Guide

The USPS Nautical Glossary is a short booklet that provides definitions of terms used in USPS courses and related topics.   It may be used in a course or in a training program, or simply as another source of information on a given topic.  Learning Guides are available to members and the public at various marine supply stores, and also directly from United States Power Squadrons Headquarters by calling 1-888-FOR-USPS between 8:30AM and 4:00PM ET Monday through Friday.  Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express are accepted.  These guides are also available to USPS members at reduced rates through their Squadron Educational Officer.
