The Onboard Weather Forecasting Seminar is a triple play. It will:

  • Attract potential new members
  • Sell the full weather course
  • Generate squadron revenue

You'll find that the seminar dovetails nicely with our full Weather Course. The seminar uses the Captain's Quick Guide to Onboard Weather Forecasting, both as a centerpiece and as a takeaway. It is a 16 panel waterproof laminated fold-out, containing illustrations and quick descriptions of common marine weather topics. It is heavy on the “what” about Weather, and light on the “why”. The “whys” and the “what-abouts” are discussed in more depth during our full Weather course.

Some of the seminar topics include:

  • What Causes Weather?
  • Winds Around Highs and Lows
  • Weather Forms Along Fronts
  • Typical National Weather Map-5 day Movement of Weather Systems
  • Be Your Own Forecaster
  • Where’s The Low?
  • Clouds
  • Thunderstorms
  • Fog
  • NOAA Weather Radio and Graphical Forecast Maps

If you've taught or taken our Weather course, you know that we deal with most of these topics over ten or more two hour classes. The seminar gives a quick taste of each topic in one two hour session, and the Instructor/Presenter kit contains a CD with a Power Point presentation and notes for the instructor.

In addition to the Captain’s Quick Guide, each seminar attendee will receive a thumbnail copy of the Power Point slides. Please note that the seminar materials no longer include the Canadian Power & Sail Squadrons Fundamentals of Weather Manual and a Cloud Chart.. These items were eliminated when the price of the Student Kits was substantially reduced.
