The Experienced Boater Program
The USPS® Experienced Boater Program can help you to add high quality members to your membership easily. This new program embodies the existing concept that you can qualify for membership anyone who can pass a NASBLA approved examination without requiring them to participate in a regular public boating course. The program also provides promotional materials, a squadron program guide, and a simple and flexible process for acquiring these prospective new members. You find them. You test them. They pass. They’re in. Recently, the membership has elected to allow squadrons to waive the educational requirements.
Why should you be interested in experienced boaters? According to a US Coast Guard study completed in late 2002, less than one-third of all boaters have ever taken a safe boating course! Does this mean you should give up offering public boating courses? Absolutely not! It does mean that there is a large population of experienced boaters out there, many of whom do not need or wish to relearn the basics of safe boating. These boaters represent a significant pool of potential new members who need only pass an approved examination to qualify for USPS membership.
OK. So experienced boaters don’t all have the same knowledge and skill level. Some of these individuals may have knowledge gaps, while others will have deep skills, but in limited areas of boating knowledge. Still others may be ready to contribute to your squadron from the start. Experienced boaters represent a rich source of prospects for membership whether they need to broaden their own skills or wish to share their skills with less experienced members.
If you are convinced that experienced boaters can be valuable additions to your squadron, then why not consider giving the Experienced Boater Program a try?
