| 5: 08 June 2004 Anouncing a new set of scripts being made available to all squadrons - Online Squadron Roster. This is a set of scripts which are being made available to all USPS squadrons. They were originally created for use by my squadron, Somerset Sail & Power Squadron, and have now been modified so they can be used by any squadron. |
| 4: 08 June 2004 This tool was originally used to send email to National ITC Contacts and to Head Quarters Customer Support Contacts. It has been modified to send email to any squadron, district or national committee contact designated on the USPS server's websites/squadron data base. |
| 3: 29 January 2004 The practice on the USPS server has been to allow scripts to be intermixed with web pages in directories within the /national root directory. This is a very insecure practice and the proliferation of hackers makes this a serious source of concern. A much more security practice is to place all scripts in secure directories which are not in the site directory tree (under the root web address www.usps.org). These directories will be maintained by the IT committee and will be accessed via the virtual web server directories /cgi-bin, /cgi-bin-nat, and /cgi-bin-tools. On or about May 1, 2004, the ability to execute scripts from other than these directories will be turned off. |
| 2: 27 June 2002 The following message was received by the system administrator for the USPS server. It indicates that Verio, the company from whom we rent server space, will be moving "our" server to a new location. We are advised that the server and all web sites housed on it will be down between 0200 and 0600 Pacific Time (PDT?) on July 8, 2002. That should be between 0600 and 1000 EDT. |
| 1: 25 June 2002 A tool has been developed to allow Squadrons and Districts to update and maintain the information displayed on the USPS public pages about their squadron or district and to update and maintain their ITC contact information. |
