Where: Lake Murray Power Squadron's Facility Flotilla Island, 2390 Johnson Marina Road, Chapin, SC 29036
Mission: Continue developing District and Squadron members as leaders and role models.
Objective: District & Squadron Officer training that is scalable and repeatable at each level.
Prerequisites: None. This is the first of three Leadership seminars which must be taken in sequence.
Duration: 7 hours

Materials: Detailed course notes provided to each student
Activities: Team exercises and practice case studies
Certificate: Successful students will receive a certificate
DB2000: Successful completion will be indicated on DB2000
Participants: All USPS members are encouraged to attend.
Fee: All students will be charged $75.00 to help defray the cost of printing materials, coffee breaks, lunch, and Facilitator Travel.

Introduction and Ice-breaker 9:00am - 9:30am
Module 1: 9:30am - 10:30am: Leadership Knowledge and Skills - fundamental principles of leadership and management in the USPS setting.
Break: 10:30am - 10:45 am
Module 2: 10:45am - 12:00pm: Teambuilding Techniques - methods for developing and managing high-performance work teams and committees.
Break: 12:00pm - 1:00pm - Working Lunch (begin Case Study)
Module 3: 1:00pm - 2:30pm: Problem Solving - Conflict Resolution, Growth, Member Involvement, Preventing Squadron Dissolution - hands on application using the knowledge and skills gained in Modules 1 and 2.
Break: 2:30pm - 2:45pm
Module 4: 2:45pm - 3:15pm: USPS Structure, Jobs, Responsibilities and Traditions (Uniforms, Etiquette, Flags) - Brief Review of Operations Training: Leadership Summary Part 1 - USPS Application
Module 5: 3:15pm - 3:45pm: Planning and Executing Effective Meetings - Rules of the Road for General, Committee, Dinner, Council, District and other USPS meeting settings Summary Part 2 - USPS Application

Anita is a member of the
National Leadership Development and Membership Committees, a Certified
Instructor, and an Operations Training Program presenter. She teaches Instructor Development and the
Public Boating Course. Anita has a BS in
Economics from the
Andy is a member of the National Leadership Development Committee, and serves as the District 26 Administrative Officer and Leadership Development Chairperson. A member of USPS since 2005, he served Lake Murray Power Squadron as Commander, Executive Officer and Squadron Education Officer. Andy is an Instructor, a Vessel Safety Examiner, a member of the National Squadron Development Committee and the National Boat Operator Certification (BOC) Committee. He is a BOC Certified Inland Navigator (IN), Coastal Navigator (CN), and Advanced Coastal Navigator (ACN). Andy is also a BOC Certifier Trainer for Inland Navigation, Coastal Navigation and Advanced Coastal Navigation. Andy has taught Public Boating, Seamanship and Piloting courses, On-the-Water (OTW) and Practical on the Water (POWT) courses, various Seminars and has conducted OTW training in several USPS Districts. Andy is also a licensed 50T Masters Captain by the United States Coast Guard.
Andy presently owns an industrial packaging company serving the southeastern United States. As a retired senior operations manager in the telecommunications industry, he enjoyed a successful career with BellSouth Corporation and AT&T. He has a history of serving many civic organizations and volunteer activities supporting boating and on the water safety. Andy attended Georgia State University and is a graduate of the Executive Management Institute at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Andy enjoys boating with his family and friends on beautiful Lake Murray and on the many lakes and coastal waters of South Carolina.
