A contest for all USPS VEs initiated by R/C Tom Roscoe to not only jump-start our 2013 season but to show our Vessel Safety Examiners that their volunteer efforts are appreciated. Here are the details from R/C Tom Roscoe for the trip to the U.S. Virgin Islands:
The USPS Safety/VSC VE Contest
In 2012 USPS VE's completed their 12th year
and 359,572 VSC's.
That's awesome.
Time to sweeten the pot.
We are keeping this simple.
Contestant must qualify in 2012 (Have done 5 VSCs).
Big contest runs Jan 1, 2013 to Nov 30, 2013
Winner announced Jan 2014 at Ntl Meeting
Trip taken after April, 2014
In 2012/2013 a VE must complete a MINIMUM of 5 VSC's
to be a certified VE in 2013.

The trip must be taken after April 1, 2014
It's a fully paid round-trip to the U.S. Virgin Islands with
accommodations included
In 2013 a VE MUST complete a MINIMUM of 5 VSC's and as
many new members as they can.
If there is a
tie in new members, the VE with the most VSCs in 2013 wins.
An example is one VE does 2000 VSCs and recruits 10
new members while another member does 25 VSCs and recruits
15 new members. The VE with 15 new members wins. So it's not
quantity of VSCs, it's number of members recruited through
interaction with boaters.
The flight is from the largest commercial airport near the VEs
home to Cyril E.
King airport on St Thomas. Fully paid economy
flight is for one person, the VE.
Trip also includes 6 night stay at a local resort, to be named.
Trip does NOT
include car rental, food or drinks.
If a member of D/33 wins, they will receive the same benefits
except to Maine.
Update 13 May 2012: Although the Safety/VE Chair R/C Tom Roscoe
and Stf/C Lee R. Chasse are both avid Vessel Examiners,
we have decided mutually we are both excluded from the VE
Contest.
