COMMANDER'S MESSAGE, December 2008:
Dear Members, We missed those of you that didn't come to the Wine and Cheese party! There was a lot of food, really good food! The best part was welcoming our newest member, Sandra Stratton! It was also a pleasure to have Savannah Waddell, our National Award Poster Winner, and her parents Scott and Shelly join our festivities. As a matter of fact, they had such a good time that Scott told me as soon as they have the time, they would like to join our organization. Probably by the time this arrives, the Christmas Party will be history. However; you have another chance! Change of Watch is 10, January 2009 at the Sportsman’s Club at 1830. Make your reservations NOW. The cutoff date is 4 January for having your money in for the party. Please come join us and help welcome the new 2009 Bridge and display our fun attitude for the District 31 Commander. Then we have the OKC Boat Show 22-25 January to staff. OETA is Sunday, 1 February, the morning before the Super Bowl. The Tulsa Boat Show D31 booth needs staffing 2-8 February. It’s a good way to get FREE admission to the 6th largest boat show in the US. The Public Boating Course will probably begin during the week of 9-12 February and end by 5 March. Location TBA. Spring boating course will probably begin the week of 21 April and end by 14 May. I’ll chair the January 5 meeting, and that will be my last one. That Saturday, Al is installed as your newest Commander. Al will be writing the next message as he takes over command. So thank you all for the support this past year! History will judge, but thanks to your participation and support, I feel like we’ve had a very good year. I believe that our squadron has made the impression that we are the best at hosting District 31 conferences. OCSPS has set the standard that the other squadrons must try to match! You all made me PROUD! Thanks to Don Birdwell SN, an Ken Whittington SN, we graduated 6 new JNs this summer and are contemplating the N class. Thanks to Larry Kerr SN, many of us were really ready to study the JN that time. Thanks to my Bridge! Everyone was good, but I have to say a special “Thank you” to our Squadron Education Officer, Alice Whittington JN. Alice was kind enough to stay on one more year. We are all in her debt. Then there is the core of our Squadron, our Social Chairman. Our social gatherings are our best-attended events, so a very hearty and sincere thanks to Ron and his special assistant, Mary. Their help all year long in hosting the parties and the fall conference was the foundation for 2008. And thanks to Marilyn for everything this year! It has been an honor to be your Commander—Thank you! Please support Al and the 2009 Bridge. Maybe we can start to really gain new members and give new life to our Squadron. Merry Christmas! Happy New Year! Danny Goss, JN - We have all come on different ships, but we’re all in the same boat now. PLEASE NOTE: YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE ANOTHER NEWSLETTER PRIOR TO THE RESERVATION/PAYMENT DUE DATE FOR CHANGE OF WATCH. SEND YOUR FORM AND CHECK IN NOW! Best wishes for the holidays, Danny "We may have all come on different ships, but we're in the same boat now." Cdr Danny Goss, AP e mail to Commander Al Gainer, JN
