Be Alert Safety Officer Report! ...

2009

There was a fire recently at Applegate Cove Marina on the Arkansas River.

Three boats were burned an sunk and there was extensive damage to one of the docks.

Insurance investigators are going over the wreckage to determine what caused the fire.

At this time it is believed that a heater being used in one of the boats which overheated and shorted out.

All heaters used on board boats or anywhere should be thoroughly inspected and the cords checked for wear or cracks.

They should also have a tip-over shut-off feature. Light bulbs should never be used in the engine compartment to keep the engine from freeqing.

The cove is closed right now by EPA authority and no boats are allowed in or out.

Always think SAFETY!
