  xo's Flag Executive Officer's MESSAGE,
Lt/C Al Gainer, AP 2009:

Hello All,

The OKC Boat Show was this last weekend, and I think the squadron made a great showing. I thought I would take a second to jot down some observations:

We had great support from our members in covering the boat show. We had someone at the booth at all times. My bad in not getting the sign up sheet out sooner so more people could sign up.

I will get the sign up sheet to Maryellen for merit mark consideration.

Thanks to Danny and Marylyn Goss, Ron Rosseler, for helping set up

Thanks to : Jules LaChance, Ron Rosseler, J. Kosbahn, Al Gainer, Lou and Cindy Persons, Doug Tharnish, Steve Bryant, Terrance Stubleski, Steve Pierce, Dave McGee, Sandy Stratton, Ron Huff, Mary Wilkerson, Larry & Corene Kerr, & Lauri Hestand for their great support with long hours of service.

Finally thanks to Terrance Stubleski and Lauri Hestand for their help in tearing down.

Recommend we put out the sign up sheet for a function at the squadron social event before the function. Example, I should have had the sign up sheet for the boat show at the squadron Christmas party. That would give everyone plenty of time to get signed up. Annotate on the squadron calendar when sign up should begin for an event so the officer responsible for that event has a reminder to get it going.

We pass out a lot of cards for the Boating class coming up in Feb. and a lot of flyers for the boat inspection program. I think the process of handing out the note cards and stickers with the class information on them will be more productive than the old process of having the person fill out a card with their information for us to contact them later on. People were more receptive to taking the information and hopefully that will result in more attendees and hopefully more squadron members later on.

Some thoughts:

Have a large sign for the back board with the dates / location of the boating class.

The Display board we use too display pictures and squadron info is getting old and tattered. We may need to replace it soon with something to display our information. Danny bought some aluminum strips to hang the light fixture on, but they will need some modification. The light fixture need another bulb.

The TV playing the Safety Video got some attention, but not as much as the picture of the Raft up and the wrecked boats.

Whoever sets up need to remember to bring a extension cord with multiple plug ins to accommodate any electronics we bring.

The boat inspectors may be busy, we handed out a lot of the vessel safety check flyers. Another good idea that we need to remember.

Federal regulations for boat safety was the second biggest item of interest. We need to order some more of those for the next show. Other handouts did not get as much attention so maybe we can skip those and look into others that people might like. (some from the state perhaps)

Maybe some new pictures for the display board, like some of the river run or rendezvous to place on the display board.

The Boat show only gave us one table( luckily I had one), but that may be a question we ask during the initial contact process with the Boat Show people as too how many tables we will get. We should have two to display all the stuff we have.

The squadron may look into buying their own tables to use at this and other functions. Storage ?

Something to consider, If the squadron is going to do stuff like the rendezvous and other activities maybe we should look into getting some tables and maybe even a canopy to have for those functions. Again storage may be an issue?

I am looking for other inputs to pass on to next years exec, so let me know if I missed anything.

Again thanks to all for their support
