It is with a heavy heart that I report the loss of a long-time
member of the United States Power Squadrons. On October 29th
P/D/C Marion Erne´ Dooley, SN passed away at the Hospice
near his home in Sun City. Erne´ joined the USPS in San
Fernando, California in August of 1973. Over the years he earned
26 merit marks. Erne´ served in a number of squadron and
district positions including squadron commander and district
commander. Erne´ and Joyce came to Phoenix in 2001 and
immediately became active in this Squadron. We will miss Erne´s
smiling face at the membership meetings. See photos of Erne´at
squadron functions in the online edition of the Bosns
Pipe.
Paul Schoonover asked me to share some information about a recent
episode involving Grace. This was originally sent out to folks
on the e-mail list. On October 21st Grace experienced a stroke
which affected her right side, arm and leg. Paul chuckled and
said the stroke did not affect her speech, and shes as
feisty as ever! Grace is home and is undergoing therapy and making
progress. Paul wanted her friends to know why she has not been
getting around as much right now.
Last spring the Executive Committee established five goals for
this Squadron year. They relate to presentation of a new Seminar,
increasing the number of Merit Marks, improving our Public Relations
efforts, and enhancing the transfer of our tribal knowledge to
newer members. We have accomplished a number of our goals and
we have made significant progress in the others. Some goals are
so fundamental to the organization that they are measured whether
we list them or not. One of these goals is the presentation of
Operations Training. Thanks to Jerry Anderson for organizing
October. Look for Jerrys report on the Officer Reports
page.
