Catalina Channel Islands Cruise
(OFC XV)
31 May - 5 June 2009The Catalina Channel Islands Cruise for 2009 (formerly known as the OFC) is scheduled from 31 May to 5 June. Our plan is to leave San Diego harbor on the morning of Sunday 31 May to arrive in Oceanside harbor that afternoon. We each arrange for a slip in Oceanside beforehand with the Oceanside Harbor Police at 760.435.4000, or contact them when arriving. (There is no designated anchorage area in Oceanside Harbor.) We usually try for slips near the Jolly Roger Restaurant.
On the morning of Monday 1 June we will leave for Avalon Harbor to arrive there in the early afternoon. When we arrive at the entrance to Avalon we wait for the Avalon Harbor to meet us to arrange for a mooring. (Or call Avalon Harbor Department on VHF Channel 12.) We plan to stay in Avalon for three nights. The skipper and crew of "Bata Mor" usually have a happy hour one afternoon and the skipper and crew of "Wind Tree" have one another afternoon. Sometimes we have visited restaurants in Avalon for meals, sometimes sharing meals on our boats. (By the way, dingy docks in Avalon have a maximum length of 14' and Avalon shoreboat service is on VHF Channel 9.)
We will be leaving Avalon on Thursday 4 June for Oceanside Harbor and Friday 5 June for San Diego Harbor to be back in our home slips that evening. We will be in greater San Diego in time to attend the USPS District 28 Council Meeting on Saturday 6 June in the Chula Vista Yacht Club, located in the California Yacht Marina, 640 Marina Parkway, in Chula Vista, CA.
