Ben,

I speak from experience with both operating systems. I grew up with
DEC/VAC, then IBM, then windows and recently LINUX.
I assume you are not familiar with LINUX?
In short......LINUX has a very steep learning curve. If you are prepared
to deal with that, you must also know that it is a very powerful operating
system. Very flexible and very complex. The nice thing about it, and
including more software than you can handle, is that it is free.
Windows on the other side is pretty much a couple of clicks and you are
done. Much easier to operate, but, not as flexible.
Personally I have a dual boot partition, so I run Windows XP professional as
well as Mandrake LINUX on the same machine. If I want to do word processing
and control the looks of the document with a couple of clicks, I would do it
under Windows. I had very specific reasons to use LINUX, which included my
need for a web server and hosting my own sites.
So....If you want easy, stick with Windows. If you want flexibility and
free and are prepared to deal with very complex operating level interaction,
LINUX has many advantages.
