I can't be sure, but I think perhaps the viri that are being sent are being
sent because a user with an infected machine has received mail from this
mail list address. The receiving machine (the user has no idea this happens)
sends the virus to all address' in the users address book.
I send out mass emails to my squadron members, and after I do, I get a flood
of virus attached emails. I have been considering sending a mass mailing
asking/alerting users of the potential that virus have to do this. I know
this will generate more virus attached email to me, but it may help some
folks.
W32.Netsky.P@mm is the virus attachment I often get.

: Ditto with the D21 list. My guess is that someone found that usps.org
: had a mail server and is using a brute force name generator to hit the
: lists. It wouldn't take but a second to generate a three or four letter
: name like D21. I might suggest that we be allowed to change the names
: of the lists to longer names with special characters. The DEO list I
: also run gets very few spams. It has the name "deo-l".

:
: I have the problem in spades. With four different squadron Mailman lists
: I
: get anywhere from 5 to 30 per day on each individual lists. There should
: be
: a way to just reject anything from non list members on receipt so the
: administrator didn't clear them every day. Unfortunately I have found no
: way
: to accomplish that and it's getting to be a real pain.

:
:
: I have just set up several maillist using ver 2.1.5 of the Mailman
: maillist
: program.
: These are all on a private server but service D20.
:
: Since setting up the list I am receiving 10+ virus files a day. The
: From:
: indicates that they are coming in from members mail servers. Generally
: it
: is the MyDoom or Sober virus. Yahoo mail detects them, but .... I am
: wondering what gives. Does anyone else have this problem?
:
: Second issue: I have blocked all attachments. However, .txt and
: .pif still get thru.
: For some reason these two attachments appear to defy blocking and they
: are
: the major virus carriers.
: Does anyone have a suggestion?
:
: thanks
