Earlier today, the following message, titled "Question on Power Point -
Projectors and Stuff"
was posed on the PSML mailing list. Several thoughtful replies were
received, and some suggestions were offered - which will be tested out
on Friday morning - which is the next time that the PC, the Projector
and the User are all in one place.
Many thanks to patrick at northshore.cnchost.com and Markus Ritter for
their suggestions on PSML.
Now, over here on CompHelp - where I should have posted in the first
place, here is the problem:
*Colleagues on COMPHELP -
I need some help on a technical issue - so if you can, point me in the
right direction for technical help, or give me some guidance with my plight:
Here is the issue: I have a Power Point and Projector lash-up.
For a Squadron presentation in which I am using one of the elegant new
PP shows that came on the courseware CD - I ALSO am preparing to use a
local video camera, which is focused on the instructor's table - so that
I can show, at intervals during the class, via the PP projector, some
training aids that are available on the instructor's table. My goal is
to flip out of the PP presentation to show via the live camera, whatever
needs to be shown: i.e. a GPS, a radio, whatever small object that one
would normally hold up for the class to see - instead - projecting the
live image of that object on the screen.
I know that I could take pictures of the objects, and include the
resulting JPG images in the static PP series of slides - but, face it -
this live camera gambit could be more fun, flexible - and is worth the
effort if I can surmount the following problem.
All is going well among the components - the PP slide show is working
fine (it has been loaded to the hard drive and is running in true PP
version, not the 'viewer' ), the little Logtech camera is working fine
(a $45 item, using Video Lan's VLC Player to give a full-screen image -
it looks great - good detail and adjusts well to dim light), the
projector is projecting .... and now my 'problem.'
I believed I could use the old technique of doing "ALT" and "TAB" to
flip between applications (i.e. PP to the Camera and back) .... BUT -
the projector becomes fixated on the first application to come along -
and stays with it - even though the display screen on the PC flips to
the new application at the time the ALT/TAB is pressed. Hummmmmmmmmm.
What is going on here? And how can I convince the projector to get with
the program - and show just what is on the display screen of the host PC?
Its got to be an easy answer - but my attempts at "help" in various
applications have come up short.
If you have suggestions - please send them to me off-line
fkemp at optonline.net if you don't want to clutter up this board
with this somewhat technical pursuit. Thanks in advance
