District Planning Network (D/Cs, D/PlanCom Members, other interested
parties),
Greetings from your National Planning Committee (PlanCom). PlanCom is
always searching for areas in our USPS procedures that may be in need of
improvement. In Jacksonville the Planning Committee hosted an open meeting,
seeking the input of interested members.
Participants included 5 D/Cs, 1 P/D/C, 1 Squadron Commander and 1 D/PlanCom
member. While many subjects were covered during this very productive
session, the main topics of discussion were increasing member benefits and
finding solutions to member concerns. Everyone benefited from the
participation in this open meeting. We feel that it is important that we
share the following lists of concerns and benefits with you.
Some of the concerns expressed were:
* The need to provide adequate time for our members to understand
and discuss new programs.
* Better training is needed for PROs.
* Need for expanding nationwide advertising efforts.
* Bylaws problems in scheduling arise with moving to two meetings
per year.
* Need for online courses, seminars, and educational course DVDs.
* Need to reduce the number of membership categories.
* Need to improve Communication, which remains a big problem at all
levels.
* According to a Boat/US survey, 85% of their members use inland
lakes and rivers; our useful courses for these boaters only include
Seamanship and some electives.
* Uniforms.need we say more?
Some benefits sought were:
* Affordable marine insurance for all
* Discounts on all boating related items
* Discounted educational cruises
* Keynote speakers at breakfast and lunch at national meetings
* Shorter meeting schedule allowing for more free time at national
meetings (do you have any suggestions on how national might shorten their
meetings?)
PlanCom has sought member input in recent surveys, questionnaires at EXPO
and on our D-Plan-Net. We are listening and all of your comments will be
evaluated. We would like to hear from you. Please send your thoughts,
concerns suggestions, ideas, etc., to us by simply sending a message to
D-Plan-Net (d-plan-net at usps.org). We hope to see you at EXPO in Norfolk,
and, be sure to stop by our booth!
