You may or may not be aware of the new reports on recruiting and retention
recently produced by the National Planning Committee. The reports document
our recent review of these important aspects of membership, and were on
display at expo during the Governing Board meeting in Norfolk. Copies have
been sent to those expo attendees who expressed interest. These new reports
contain some information that can be considered a review of existing ideas
for recruiting and retention, but also contain several new approaches and
strategies in these areas. All of the information in the reports is focused
on highlighting the best practices we can apply in our attempts to increase
our membership through recruitment efforts and retain the members we
currently have.

Because the two reports are lengthy, we've created a list of bullet points
for each report that simplify the content and condense it into a one-page
document that should be easier to use and apply. These summary documents
are attached to this message in PDF format. For clarity, the bullet points
in each summary have been divided into the following three sections:

Strategies

Strategies are the suggested approaches that came out of our studies, and
that in some cases can be further developed locally. As a rule, strategies
that might be very successful in one squadron may not work at all in
another. Success with any of the strategies summarized will be dependent on
member involvement and public receptiveness.

Tactics

Tactics are the suggested actions that came out of our studies that can be
taken without additional study. They represent things we can all do
immediately, and in many cases, these are things of which we've been aware
for quite some time.

Support

Support items are a combination of things that are available to support your
recruiting and retention efforts and things you can do to support members
involved in these activities. It is important to do all that we can to
support recruiting and retention efforts.

We offer these summary documents, and the bullet points within, to
invigorate your recruiting and retention efforts and inspire you with
implementation ideas. And, if you're interested, the full reports are
available upon request to expand further on these important activities.

As always, we are looking for your input! We do want to hear from you!
Please send your comments and suggestions on the summary documents, the full
reports, recruiting and retention or any other subject to us at
d-plan-net at usps.org.

Regards,
