To D/21 Members:
A week or so ago, San Antonio members were offering refuge to LRGV
members as Hurricane Dean was approaching the Gulf of Mexico. Luckily,
no doubt due to the efforts of the Goddess of Wx to chase Dean out of
the Gulf and Caribbean aboard the Carnival Conquest, Dean was a
non-event for D/21. As Dean approached, we found out about a new
resource recently available to USPS members, "USPS Storm Central."
"Storm Central" can be found at:

As we enter the peak hurricane and associated inland bad weather time of
the year, please inform your members about the USPS website for
emergency communications. Currently it is listed under the Secretary's
Department but a link will be appearing on the NXO home page shortly,
and I'm asking Kay to put a link right up front on the D/21 website.
The page was established as a USPS emergency communication system (Storm
Central) and is designed to function like a bulletin board for posting
messages about "where you are" in the event of evacuation (or related
contact information), information from members who are offering to
volunteer their house as an evacuation safe haven, spaces for secure
boat storage, messages from members who are in need of a place to stay
and have pets, or just assistance and help, etc.
If other forms of communication, such as telephone or cell phone are
down for any extended period of time, at the very least, it may be
helpful as a web based communication vehicle.
Newsletter editors - this would make a terrific article for your next
issue!
regards,
Jean
