Hi Bill (and all),
The fires are just awful, and it doesn't seem to be stopping any time soon.
The Santa Ana winds are unpredictable, and they're reporting that the fires
may reverse now with offshore winds. Point Loma is socked in with heavy
smoke and soot. I spent the day yesterday at the yacht club to help out and see
what folks needed. Early week, we're short staffed... and the club's been
swamped with evacuees. We have at least three members that lost homes, one of
the couples are SDSPS members. Bob and Betsy Macomber lost their home in
Ramona. They are being real troopers, and you'd never know about their loss in
just talking with them. Their son came down from UC Berkeley yesterday to be
with them. Bob had planned to leave Monday on the Baja Ha Ha, but won't be
going now. As boaters do, they already have an offer for a place to live
until June. Their dock neighbor is going on the Ha Ha, and offered up his home.
They will need some major support in the very near future.
Bob Hubbard was evacuated, and it appears that Rancho Bernardo has pockets
where they can return today. Keep him in your prayers, as his home was in the
burn area. RB got hit hard. Mel & Rhodo Monnes are in the area as well.
Mike & Carol Fontaine along with their son and family were evacuated, and will
be able to return home today for sure.
I will send a few photos in a separate message, in case some of you do not
want to receive them. They're taken from my home, showing the changes from
Sunday to Tuesday. I wasn't home yesterday to be taking photos!
P/C Marie Baer, P
