I received the following on the AGLCA (America's Great
Loop Association) mailing list. It definitely deserves the
widest circulation in the interest of boating safety.

Hello Fellow Loopers,

I would like to take a very quick and serious moment to forward a word
of caution. This came to me from a close friend who lives in Navarre
Florida. A Coast Guard notice was posted in the papers alerting
boaters to be aware not to run Gas Generators for A/C or other uses
while swimming around the boat due to Carbon Monoxide poisoning.
According to the posting they stated many exhaust vents are located
under Swim platforms & ladders where swimmers are gathering to board
on and off the boat or merely floating to cool off. The off gassing
from the generator is odorless causing swimmers to either become ill
at the very least or in some cases pass out and drown.
I know many of our loopers are savvy to this information but we are
also the crew who greets an often times educates new boaters. So
please be careful.

My friend stated in her area alone there have been two deaths, a man
was cleaning around the waterline and swim platform( I think he must
have dipped under the platform for something he saw) the 2nd was a
pre teen.

Wishing you all safe and healthy travels...
