Subject: [DB2000_user_group] Canadian Members

We always welcome our winter visitors here in the Southwest.  This year we 
have had the occasion to welcome one as an Associate member from the Spokane 
Sail & Power Squadron to our squadron. All went well until it came time to 
insert him into our DB2000 database.  Although a USPS member, his mailing 
address is in Canada.
 
The State and Zip codes for Canada are not acceptable inputs to those 
fields, and no field is averrable for Canada as a country. 
 
My only recourse was to make use of the Address 2 and City fields to input 
the needed information.  Then a new problem popped up when the database was 
exported for our online roster, that did not work either.
 
I am now forced to edit the raw csv file for the online roster to move the 
address information to the proper fields for that program.  Doing it once is 
no real problem, but doing it ever time the online roster is updated is a 
real nuisance.  A similar task is required for mailing labels.
 
I see the national database has handled the problem, but that may be 
updated via individual fields instead of entire squadron new records at a time.
 
Is there any way that the DB2000 database can handle Canadian snail mail 
addresses?

Bob,

In District 2, in Champlain Squadron we have a P/C/C of the Canadian Power
Squadron as a member.  DB2000 puts his address in as follows:

Address 1 is his street address
Address 2 is his city address
City is Canada with the Postal Code (Ex.  CANADA J3H 3E9)
State is his province
and the Zip Code field is left blank.

Hope this helps you and any others that have members with Canadian
addresses.

Hi Bob,

Key West has had a Canadian member for over a decade. His record is 
coded by HQ the same way as Susan's member. I did not notice the 
difference. I have never entered a Canadian associate member, but agree 
with Susan that the same should work.
