Good Morning all,
By now you have all received a welcome notice to the new Mail-lists-admin
e-mail list. In view of the problems last month with AOL (which have been
solved), we felt the need for a quick and effective means of communicating
with all the administrators of 60-plus mail lists on usps.org. The
subscriber list was made from the listed administrator for each mail list.
If you are no longer the administrator for the list, please find a
replacement, enter his name in Mailman, and advise me.
The list is not a discussion list, but is a way for ITCom to keep you
advised of changes and happenings with the Mail lists. I expect traffic to
be very light, once we get started. If you are still a mail list
administrator, please do not unsubscribe from this list; we need a way to
contact you all.
A detailed review of the mail lists has illuminated a few problems on some
of the lists. As a result, we ask that all usps.org lists comply with the
following policies:
1. No list may be hidden.
2. Maximum message size must be 10kB unless otherwise approved by the ITCom
Chairman.
3. Password reminder notices must be sent monthly.
4. Only list members may post, unless the list is intended primarily for
one-way dissemination of information. In this case those approved for
posting must be listed.
5. All subscriptions require "confirm". Additionally "require approval" is
recommended for lists where it is desired to limit members to a certain
group, such as the members of a committee or squadron.
6. A "list description" must be created for each list.
7. List administrator only, may view the list membership, unless there are
special reasons for allowing list members to see it also. List membership
shall not be available to "anyone"
8. The administrator's e-mail address must be kept current.
9. Administrative requests must be cleared regularly to prevent a large
backup, but in no case less often than weekly.
10. List Administrators of new lists must acknowledges having read
these requirements.
The few of you who are not currently following all these policies, are
invited to review the settings for your list, and revise them. The policies
with be posted on the ITCom web site.
Again. Welcome to this list. We hope it will help make all our mail lists
more effective and useable. If you have questions or comments, please write
directly to me.
Best regards, Phil
