HELLO LIST,

Each member subscribed to the memcom email list as access to certain controls
and a list of who is on the list. This can be helpful to know certain kinds
of info such as turning off your subscription while away and turning it back on
when you return or making sure your email address is current and or the one
the member wishes to use.

Yep she is on the list.

Subj:usps.org mailing list memberships reminder
Date:03/01/2003 2:28:57 AM Pacific Standard Time
From:mailman-owner@usps.org

Sent from the Internet

This is a reminder, sent out once a month, about your usps.org mailing
list memberships. It includes your subscription info and how to use
it to change it or unsubscribe from a list.

You can visit the URLs to change your membership status or
configuration, including unsubscribing, setting digest-style delivery
or disabling delivery altogether (e.g., for a vacation), and so on.

In addition to the URL interfaces, you can also use email to make such
changes. For more info, send a message to the '-request' address of
the list (for example, dvscch-request@usps.org) containing just the
word 'help' in the message body, and an email message will be sent to
you with instructions.

If you have questions, problems, comments, etc, send them to
mailman-owner@usps.org. Thanks!

Passwords for sailplay@aol.com:
--------------------------------------------------------END COPY PASTE

my message continues:

The above copy is part of an email sent out by the "mailman" email program
USPS uses and is sent monthly. It tells each member subscribed to any email list
of USPS what their "personal" password and serves as a reminder. It is an
auto system however the member can change their password if desired. This
password allows the members to access certain controls they can turn on or off. And
it allows the member to see who else is on the list (if this feature is turn on
by the list admin which is the case for memcom@usps.org) It also allows the
member to reset their password if desired.

NOTE: WHAT IS "MAILMAN?" This is the email program USPS is using for its
email lists. For a list of email lists go to: http://www.usps.org/member/ and on
the left click on "Mailing Lists." Some lists are closed such as
memcom@usps.org which is for members of the national committee only. Others are open lists.
Each list has a member that is the controller of the list called a "List
Administrator." The administrator approves who can post to the list and more
importantly who can be a member of the list. On closed lists if someone trys to
subscribes this is handled as a request and goes to the administrator for
approval. In this way it limits who can be on the list and who can post to the list.
If someone that is not a list member posts a message it is rejected and sent to
the administrator for approval. Most such posts are refused. Also any post if
too large is rejected and sent to the administrator. This is to protect from
files att'd which may contain a virus. For example, when Bev Kennedy posts a
message with the roster attached, it comes to me (administrator) for approval.
So attachments can't be sent without approval. I have been and remain the list
administrator but if someone would like this assignment I would surely accept
such an offer.

Question? How can a member of the email list tell who is on the list?

Answer - First go to : www.usps.org/mailman/listinfo/memcom then scroll down
to "memcom Subscribers" see copy of screen below:

memcom Subscribers
The subscribers list is only available to the list members.
Enter your address and password to visit the subscribers list:
Address: Password:
To change your subscription (set options like digest and delivery modes, get
a reminder of your password, or unsubscribe from memcom), enter your
subscription email address:

In the address box enter your email address, then the password next to "Visit
Subscriber List" and hit enter and a list of the subscribers comes up. If
instead you wish to change how you get email from the list, put your email
address in the box next to "Edit Options" and hit enter.

Does this help in understanding how our email list works? Hope so.

Bruce
