Roberta,
This is a wonderful idea. I tried to visit the web site today, but it was
unavailable. If the instructions for setting up a "My soldier" are good and
easily understood, this program can stand on its own with only some
promotion to inform USPS members of its existence and purpose. Closer to
home, we can also encourage squadrons to "adopt" our men and women in
uniform. Earlier this year, our squadron "adopted" a USCG ship stationed at
Sandy Hook. There was a formal ritual and document signing at a squadron
meeting with the captain and representative crew members in attendance. As
a followup, those adoptees are invited to participate in squadron
activities when they can, and squadron members are encouraged to make
themselves available to the crew when they need assistance (although I am
unaware of any instance where that has occurred).

I am still praying for your rapid and full recovery. Do us all a favor and
give yourself a rest period!!

Best regards,

Chub Varga

Hello Everyone,

Not every squadron is interested in working with youth so I have expanded
the name of Youth Activities to now be called Community Outreach Programs -
Youth. (COPY) Youths come in all ages even our young soldiers.

Ever-thinking Jeanne Sangiorgio called me yesterday and suggested that a
great Community Outreach Program for all squadrons would be the "My
Soldier" Program.

Go to www.http://www.mville.edu/news/NEWS_nov04_mysoldier.HTML and read
about the program organized by a student at Manhattanville University. We
could ask our squadrons to sign up there or doing something similar on
their own.

I truly feel that we should promote our squadrons locally by involving our
members in some community wide program that will benefit the community
at-large and bring the squadron recognition. I am trying to further our
Civic Service commitment and spread our reach. Not everyone is a boater
but it will help our membership drive and retain our members by offering
such a program as this for each squadron to do. Not everyone supports the
War in Iraq but these are our young men and women who are defending the
freedoms that we all know and share. In light of the commitment and
extension of duty that has been announced, I think Jeanne's idea is a
timely one.

Please let me hear from you if any of you think this is a viable idea.
Thanks Jeanne for the wonderful suggestion.

My church is also doing this as one of the members is in Iraq.
