 3 MEMBERSHIP REPORT & UPDATE 3

Ahoy Everyone,=20
=20
Membership reports as of 30 Nov 2004 have been posted to our web site. Chec=
k
them, print them, share them with your squadrons and districts.
=20
Recruiting is hanging in considering all our challenges down in the Florida
area. Really you should be very proud since USPS squadrons have recruited
more members this time of year VS last year;
=20
2375 vs 2359 really this is very good.
=20
The number of districts showing YTD growth, Nov over Nov, is growing since
the October report. District on the NOV YTD report are; 1, 10, 12, 19, 21,
22, 25, 26, 28, 32, 33, and 99. This is excellent. Committee reps please
pass on our heart felt congrats to these districts and squadrons membership
chairs.=20
=20
A new report has been added. The 3% Growth Goal which calculated the growth
needed by each district to achieve this national goal. It includes a member=
s
per squadron needed for each squadron also. Check it out.
=20
Well, the snow is falling here, it really is......burrrrrrrrr, and more

 - - - First Timers=B9 Table Help - - -

Dear Memcoms,

Carolyn said I'd be calling, but I waited until our travels were over, for
now..... Hope you had a safe and good start of the season.

We have decided to combine the Memcom table and the First Timers' table to
help with our busy schedules in hopes of having more than 2 people, but not
at 2 tables. So I am asking for your help in welcoming first timers'
navigate the waters of our meeting in Orlando!

Our hours will be the same, so we hope to have 3 folks at the tables at the
same time to help where needed. We will also be asking the First Timers'
from Jacksonville if they would like to join us! This can help integrate
them into our activities and be of help to those who are new this time
around. So, all I'll need is one helper per hour. Please review the times
available and let me know ASAP so you get your request!

I will also invite you, now, to our Orientation sessions:
Thurs. Jan 6 10-11 Salon 13
Friday Jan 7 8-9 Salon 16

We are looking forward to many new faces, and hope you can stop by to
welcome them again.

Thanks for your help,

Donna Dunlap

] ] ] ] A Letter to Santa .........\

5 December, 2004
Any State USA
=20
Dear Santa:

I=B9m having fun working with a great volunteer organization, The United
States Power Squadrons (USPS). I serve on the National Membership Committee
as a National Membership Representative. My special job is to act as the
liaison between the National Organization and the District / Squadrons.
=20
It is important that I am enthusiastic as I encourage the District and
Squadron Membership and Involvement Chairs to Recruit new members and
Involve new members as soon as they join USPS. I use e mail, snail mail,
telephone and fax to contact my District / Squadrons at least once a month.
I also ask that they share their Successes and Concerns with me so I can
pass on their good ideas to other Squadrons and offer assistance in helping
with their problems.
=20
The other really important part of my job is to send a report to my Team
Leader and Stf/Commander EVERY month, as they need to know what I am doing
and what my District / Squadrons are doing. My Stf/Cdr. talks about how
important it is to have Communications, Up, Down and Across.
=20
Now, I know you have been watching me all year and I must admit I have not
always fulfilled all the above duties. I get busy helping in my own Squadro=
n
and lots of other neat things. However, there IS something special I would
really like for Christmas and if you could just dock that new Sea Ray near
my house, I promise to fulfill ALL my duties as NMR in 2005. I=B9ll do a supe=
r
special job for this great organization, helping to increase our Membership=
,
resulting in more Safe Boaters on the waterways.
=20
You know how important it is to have lots of helpers and since your reindee=
r
are getting older, who knows when you might be traveling in a Hatteras or a
Bertram!

Happy Holidays and a Healthy, Happy Peaceful 2005 to you and your families.

Lee Popham has reserved a parlor suite in Orlando and will be posting the
room number where he will hold the Sea Scout/BSA Meeting on Friday morning
(I know during the EXPO, but we need some of the BSA & Sea Scout Leaders to
attend.) Lee will start his meeting at 1000 and when he finishes (1030) I
want to meet with anyone involved in the BSA Jamboree that we are planning
to attend next summer (July) in Ft A P Hill MD. Please disseminate this
information to any squadron member who will be attending the EXPO. We are
hoping to finalize our presentation at this meeting. I hope that the ED
Dept can send a rep as well.

Merry Christmas!

g Hello Everyone,
=20
Not every squadron is interested in working with youth so I have expanded
the name of Youth Activities to now be called Community Outreach Programs -
Youth. (COPY) Youths come in all ages even our young soldiers.
=20
Ever-thinking Jeanne Sangiorgio called me yesterday and suggested that a
great Community Outreach Program for all squadrons would be the "My Soldier=
"
Program. =20
=20
Go to www http://www.mville.edu/news/NEWS_nov04_mysoldier.html
<http://www.http://www.mville.edu/news/news_nov04_mysoldier.html> and read
about the program organized by a student at Manhattanville University. We
could ask our squadrons to sign up there or doing something similar on thei=
r
own. =20
=20
I truly feel that we should promote our squadrons locally by involving our
members in some community wide program that will benefit the community
at-large and bring the squadron recognition. I am trying to further our
Civic Service commitment and spread our reach. Not everyone is a boater bu=
t
it will help our membership drive and retain our members by offering such a
program as this for each squadron to do. Not everyone supports the War in
Iraq but these are our young men and women who are defending the freedoms
that we all know and share. In light of the commitment and extension of
duty that has been announced, I think Jeanne's idea is a timely one.
=20
Please let me hear from you if any of you think this is a viable idea.
Thanks Jeanne for the wonderful suggestion.
=20
My church is also doing this as one of the members is in Iraq.

c A Positive Response

Roberta,

This is a wonderful idea.

I tried to visit the web site today, but it was unavailable. If the
instructions for setting up a "My soldier" are good and easily understood,
this program can stand on its own with only some
promotion to inform USPS members of its existence and purpose.

Closer to home, we can also encourage squadrons to "adopt" our men and wome=
n
in uniform. Earlier this year, our squadron "adopted" a USCG ship statione=
d
at Sandy Hook. There was a formal ritual and document signing at a squadro=
n
meeting with the captain and representative crew members in attendance. As
a followup, those adoptees are invited to participate in squadron activitie=
s
when they can, and squadron members are encouraged to make themselves
available to the crew when they need assistance (although I am unaware of
any instance where that has occurred).

I am still praying for your rapid and full recovery. Do us all a favor and
give yourself a rest period!!

Best regards,

Chub Varga

on to do. &nbsp; Not everyone supports the War in Iraq but these are our youn=
g men and women who are defending the freedoms that we all know and share. &=
nbsp;In light of the commitment and extension of duty that has been announce=
d, I think Jeanne's idea is a timely one. &nbsp;<BR>
&nbsp;<BR>
Please let me hear from you if any of you think this is a viable idea. &nbs=
p;Thanks Jeanne for the wonderful suggestion. &nbsp;<BR>
&nbsp;<BR>
My church is also doing this as one of the members is in Iraq.<BR>

I tried to visit the web site today, but it was unavailable. If the instruc=
tions for setting up a &quot; My soldier&quot; are good and easily understood=
, this program can stand on its own with only some<BR>
promotion to inform USPS members of its existence and purpose. &nbsp;<BR>
<BR>
Closer to home, we can also encourage squadrons to &quot;adopt&quot; our me=
n and women in uniform. &nbsp;Earlier this year, our squadron &quot;adopted&=
quot; a USCG ship stationed at Sandy Hook. &nbsp; There was a formal ritual a=
nd document signing at a squadron meeting with the captain and representativ=
e crew members in attendance. &nbsp; As a followup, those adoptees are invite=
d to participate in squadron activities when they can, and squadron members =
are encouraged to make themselves available to the crew when they need assis=
tance (although I am unaware of any instance where that has occurred).<BR>
<BR>
I am still praying for your rapid and full recovery. &nbsp;Do us all a favo=
r and<BR>
give yourself a rest period!!<BR>
<BR>
Best regards,<BR>
