Roberta opened the meeting and introductions were made.  Carole Murray, =
National Youth Activity Chair, from the Canadian Power & Sail Squadrons =
was introduced.  R/C Bruce Troth and V/C Creighton Maynard  both offered =
kudos to the committee for all of their hard work and progress that has =
been made in the area of youth activities.


REPORTS:
PARTNERSHIPS:
Don Clark reported that the common problem with partnerships is the =
insurance issues.  He told the committee that the American Legion will =
work only at a local level and Roy Teatero is handling that.   He is =
still working with the GSA and has sent them a sample MOU.  It was =
stressed that partnerships are important for many reasons - expand the =
base from which to draw new students and future members along with =
increased National Security, PR and to teach boating/water safety =
outreach to youth. =20
As of last month there are 95 Apprentices in USPS.
SECRETARY:
Mary Pierpont circulated the roster for anyone to update his or her =
information.
PROGRAM AND PLANNING TEAM:
Jeanne Sangiorgio reported to the committee the "plan" for tomorrow's =
Open Meeting.  The theme - "Membership Connects - We Report, You =
Decide". =20
MEMBERSHIP TABLE -  Claudette reported that there are still some slots =
for volunteers at the Membership Table on Thursday and Friday. =
Volunteers were assigned. =20
SCHOLARSHIP - Lee Devane give a great report explaining that he is =
working hard and not throwing in the towel.  He will continue to work =
with the LawCom to develop the Youth Scholarship Progarm.
THE ENSIGN - YOUTH ACTIVITIES PAGE - Micky McNelis - reported that she =
is interested in training an assistant for editing Ensign Youth Page. =
She is current with articles to Ensign Editor, Yvonne Hill.
WATERSMART LEARNING TOOL:- Drex Bradshaw reported to the committee that =
WaterSmart(sm) From the Start compertized Learning Tool, key component =
in the USPS Boating Safety Toolchest for Kids, has been completed and a =
Beta-test version has been sent to the national, independent review =
team.  Their crititques are due to Roberta by 5 June.  WaterSmart should =
be ready for distribution by Fall G/B. =20
Drex exhibited the new magnetic PR tool that can be affixed to your car =
for sale costing $35.00.
Drex descrjbed success of the Hampton Roads (VA) Youth EXPO.  D/5 was =
one of eight community sponsors for this area event. More than 5,000 =
people attended and there were lines of people waiting to participate in =
the D/5 exhibits and activities that brought more than 2,000 youth to =
the D/5 Boating &  Water Safety booth.
D/5 is purchasing a Robotronics robot in the form of a PWC with =
SeaVester at the helm. =20
SIDEKICKS - "Power of Safe Boating"  Roberta congratulated Charlie Tulip =
for his excellent job working with the NSBC artists to design this new =
publication for USPS. This publication was awarded First Place in Print =
Media at the competition held at the International Boating & Water =
Safety Summit in April 2004.  "Sidekicks.", The Power of Safe Boating is =
item #09-09-115 and sells in packs of 10/$5.00.  This booklet is geared =
for middle to high school students and promote boating safety.  =20
OMC FOUNDATION GRANT - Charlie Tulip reported that he has submitted a =
budget to V/C Maynard for suggested spending of these funds.
USCG Grant 2004 - Roberta announced that Phase two of the WaterSmart =
fromthe Start has been funded by the USCG Office of Boating Safety.  =
Phase two is the develoopment of companion educational materials 1) =
Teacher's instructional manual and 2) Student activity/workbook.
YOUTH POSTER CONTEST:
Priscilla Clarke reported that there would be signs, posters and =
brochures available at the Open Meeting.  There will be an article in =
the Ensign announcing the new poster contest.  There is a new CD  - =
Youth Presentation Kit for local squadrons to take to schools explaining =
the Poster Contest. It will be sold for $10.00. It is a self-teaching =
tool to promote the contest to schools and other venues. It is item # =
07-39-050 and is available in interacitive format.
WEBSITES:
Bonnie Murphy Brown reported on the success of the website =
www.usps4kids.org.  There is now a new server and now much improved.  =
She reported that Radio Disney is going to be working with us on water =
safety sound bites.  Bonnie reported to the committee further on the =
success of the Expo that D-5 participated in and had such terrific =
exposure to the public.

REGISTERED MARKS:
Sea Vester is copyrighted, but the logo with the ship's wheel with Sea =
Vester will have to go to the Law Committee for review.
SEA SCOUTS:
Lee Poplam is at the National Venturing Meeting presenting a Power Point =
on USPS.  He will be able to answer questions when he arrives tomorrow.
Arlene Anderson is a new youth committee member and will be keeping an =
excel record of what squadrons are working with the Sea Scouts.  Please =
report to Arlene any activity squadrons do with Scouts.
COMMITTEE SHIRTS:
Bruce Waldman is still taking orders.
